The Merchant Technologies division is one of the fastest growing businesses within Amazon. There are over 2.2 million merchants, ranging from students selling their text books to nation-wide retail chains, selling on Amazon’s international marketplaces. Collectively, these merchants are responsible for selling about 1/3rd of all items ordered from Amazon.com world-wide. The revenue and free cash flow generated by the M@ business are at the same proportions. This is an already-large business that is continuing to grow at a high rate year-over-year and we have several new initiatives that will further accelerate this trend. The technology platform is the cornerstone for our growth. The team is investing heavily in building a highly scalable global platform that can handle millions of transactions every month worth billions of dollars while maintaining buyer’s and seller’s trust on the platform. The team aspires to provide sellers with state-of-the-art tools for managing their inventory and orders and financial reporting.
Our Marketplace development team in Hyderabad, India focuses on building this platform. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about global development and building highly scalable and extensible platform. Specifically, the leader would be responsible for building a brand new registration platform that will be used to register 30+ different products and will be used to register millions of merchants worldwide. The leader will need to have strong focus on engineering excellence and performance metrics. The leader will be obsessed with developing high-performance teams through rigorous goal setting, disciplined attention to performance metrics, continuous process improvement, and mutual support and mentorship. He or she will also have very strong communication skills to bridge the gap between the Seattle and Hyderabad teams.
Key Responsibilities:
· Leading highly talented technology teams responsible for building and owning complex services from India.
· Delivery of highly available and highly reliable software.
· Inculcate a culture of innovation and operational efficiency in the team.
· Responsible for the direction of the new Registration platform.
· Influence, collaborate and communicate effectively with various leaders in Amazon.
· Hiring, growing and retaining a strong team keeping with the Amazon high bar.
Basic Qualifications:
· A BS or MS degree in Computer Science is required with 9-12 years of experience managing distributed computing/server core software engineering teams.
· Candidates must demonstrate proactive technical leadership, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a proven ability to multi-task and manage stress effectively in a fast-paced environment.
· A record of hiring of strong technical team members and leaders.
